Graphic Design Students’ field trip to Shanghai

Graphic Design program has made a successful field trip to Shanghai, with 3 faculty members and 36 students from April 12 to April 15. They visited Frog, Wieden+Kennedy, We’re Social, which are well known international advertising agencies. It’s absolutely a rewarding experience for graphic design students, since they attended to the presentation from the creative director, marketing director, visual designers, and communicated directly with them in English. For junior students, portfolio review session from those agencies could help them a better access to the internships in summer.

“Many of your students’ portfolios were quite impressive. They have big advantages in English presentation of their design works. Please encourage them to apply for an internship and send their materials to us. I will expedite the process once they’ve submitted.” Said by Jason Breen, Marketing Director of We Are Social agency.

“Those agencies are wonderful, I want to work here immediately.” “I could work as an assistant designer first if they hire me.” “I wish my English is good enough to deal with those international clients, like Nike, Coke Cola, Tiffany.” “How can we compete with other graduates, since those agencies are looking for talents equipped with creative thinking, skillful practice, and passionate learning?” Various comments were raised from our students during this trip.

To summarize, this trip helped us get connections to the professionals and job marketing for our students, in which they were immersed in the design survey in real context. Furthermore, it strengthened the understanding of the roles as graphic designer in nowadays.
